About the Story

How it Happened

Following their Military service, happenstance found Fritz and Dennis in second careers sharing an office in Washington, D.C. where they formed an enduring friendship.  When finally in retirement, Fritz took on cooking at home, first as a hobby, and then as a passion.  Shortly thereafter he decided to write an "adventure cookbook," but couldn't find a co-author for the story.  Several years later, happenstance again found the Quinns and Knechts together and after a "few bottles of wine," a deal was struck:  Dennis would write the adventure and Fritz would supply the recipes.  Nearly two years later the final product was complete.  We hope you enjoy both the food and the food for thought.

Retired Army Colonel Tim DePalma travels across Europe and across time to extract revenge for a long ago crime committed in the jungles of Vietnam.  Along the way he experiences many culinary adventures and provides their recipes, so you can follow in his footsteps while still in your kitchen.  These recipes provide straight forward ways to prepare great dishes with minimum effort.  Tim's adventures include elegant dinners, with appetizers like Eastern Shore Cream of Crab Soup, entrees like Veal Piccata Bellagio, and desserts like Tiramisu.  When action is heavy, he grabs lighter fare, such as Shrimp and Avocado Salad, Grownup Grilled Cheese Sandwiches, and Yvette's Cream Puffs.  When he kicks back, it's great family recipes such as Party Lasagna, China Beach Beer Butt Chicken, and Italian Love Cake.  Since Tim doesn't have a lot of time to cook, these recipes are "all made easy."  You may not yet know how Tim's quest for revenge concludes, but you can already conclude he has many great meals along the way!
